The indie rock and jazz festivals in Madonies are an annual appointment that continues to renew and enable you to live the experience of a complete holiday: live the great music, falling in love with the places, relaxing you away from the citizen chaos.
Castelbuono Jazz Festival
Now in its 22nd edition, it will be held this year from 7 to 23 August and will involve not only the city of Castelbuono but also the cities of Pollina, Cefalù and Petralia Sottana about 40km away from our facilities. In Cefalù the shows will be in the area of Porto Vecchio, with bands inspired by Mediterranean jazz. In Pollina, jazz will light up the dawn inside the Pietrarosa theater, while in Petralia Soprana the entire village will be involved with the Notte del Jazz, where more than 50 musicians will perform.
The fulcrum of the event remains Piazza Castello in Castelbuono where some of the major international jazz artists will perform. The Castelbuono Jazz is already included in the big events of the Sicily Region Tourism Board.
Ypsigrock
Over the years it has earned the title of best European festival for indie music, never betraying its nature since the beginning.
Ypsigrock is Italy’s first boutique festival, landmark for all indie culture enthusiasts. The festival was founded in 1997 in Castelbuono, about ten kilometers from the sea and set in a beautiful valley, thanks to some young people who are passionate about indie and alternative rock music. The idea was to be able to play the favorite artists of all time at home, organizing a festival inspired by the winning formula of international events.
With the experience gained in twenty years, Ypsigrock has become a certainty and a model on the international scene, and is perceived as an unmissable event for the artistic quality and for the aesthetic beauty of the most enchanting corners of Castelbuono where it lives again.
During its first twenty editions, Ypsigrock has increased its prestige in the panorama of live music events in Europe, for the evocative atmosphere of its places and for the refined line-ups, always built around the golden rule of the Ypsi Once : you go up only once in your life on the festival stages, you never replicate.
In these years many artists arrived in Castelbuono had not ever played in Italy, performing, in almost all cases, as Italian exclusive. Among the most prestigious bands that have written their name in the festival’s history are Editors, Mogwai, Daughter, Savages, Moderat, Battles, Metronomy, Primal Scream, Future Islands, Caribou, Belle & Sebastian, Dinosaur Jr., Mudhoney and many other international and Italian talents. Furthermore, Ypsigrock was the scene of the Italian debut of big names in world music, including Jon Hopkins, Alt-J, SOHN, Django Django, Hinds, Fat White Family. The great unanimous consent of fans and critics specialized in these prestigious bands, allowed in 2015 to Ypsigrock to be elected Italy’s best festival at the Onstage Awards.
Since its first edition, the festival has been hosted in some enchanting places in Castelbuono, such as the charming medieval village set within the Madonie Park, a few kilometers from the soft beaches of Cefalù and the rocky coasts of Pollina. The Ypsi Once Stage, the main stage of Ypsigrock, is the jewel of Piazza Castello, enclosed between the ancient Medieval Arch, the immense staircase and the imposing manor of the Ventimiglia’s family, an area rich in history and bewitching beauty. Another stage is the intimate Mr. Y Stage enclosed in the South Center, inside the former Chiesa del Crocifisso, a beautiful deconsecrated Baroque church, located on the main street of Castelbuono.
