To cross these places the ideal residence is undoubtedly the Forest Lodge, located in the natural reserve of San Giorgio, Sic site (Site of Community Importance) and Zps (Special Protection Area), in one of the most fascinating trails of the Madonie, among the woods of Collesano and Gratteri and the medieval abbeys of Pedale and San Giorgio. The Forest Lodge is the chance to stay as botanists, ethologists, anthropologists, writers and painters did to get to know the beauty, the secrets and the enchantment of nature into the Gratteri’s forests.

The Madonie are a unique place for biodiversity and included in the list of UNESCO World Geoparks. In the park there are many floral species, from the typical Mediterranean scrub, to olive and ash trees, from pastures to dense beech, manna, oak and chestnut woods. A lush treasure of nature trails for lovers of nature, hiking and trekking. Visits within the paths are also possible starting from the structures present at Gratteri.

As a general rule, the old principle of dressing up as an onion is always a valid choice. Having more light garments rather than just a few heavy garments helps to face the sudden changes in temperature typical of the mountain environment.

Even for trekking clothes like for mountain shoes, we can say that there is no set of items valid for all situations, but combinations of different garments depending on the excursion we have to face. It makes no sense to go on a valley hike in the middle of July and with a fearful hot anticyclone, carrying a 50lt backpack full of totally useless heavy clothing on your shoulders! Conversely it is very risky to get caught in a tank from a storm at 3000 meters!
